Does Sleep Actually Affect Your GPA?

Everyone says that you should sleep more to take care of your brain, which should then logically get you better grades. But no one actually listens to this, and we often stay up and push our brains without getting enough sleep. Now, is that actually hurting our grades in the long run? I did this data analysis to find out. (Short answer: No, it doesn't. It only hurts our brains.)

Chart 1

Hours of Sleep vs. GPA Level

Scatter plot of hours of sleep versus GPA

Analysis: This scatterplot doesn’t show a clear upward or downward trend. The points are spread across the GPA range, which suggests hours of sleep alone don’t strongly predict GPA.

Chart 2

Daytime Sleep Time vs. GPA

Scatter plot of daytime sleep time versus GPA

Analysis: This chart also shows no clear trend. The points remain scattered across the plot, which suggests daytime napping isn’t strongly related to GPA in this dataset.

Chart 3

Daytime Sleep vs. Nighttime Sleep

Scatter plot of daytime sleep versus nighttime sleep

Analysis: This chart adds an interesting pattern: students who sleep more at night tend to nap less during the day, and students who sleep less at night seem to nap more. That’s interesting behaviorally, but it still doesn’t translate into a GPA trend.

The data is clear. There's no connection between GPA and sleep. I'm going to use this data to convince my mom that my 4 hours per day sleep schedule is okay. Wish me luck!
